Blues aus Kärnten mit viel Humor und enormer Kondition! ...Ungeachtet zur geographischen Ferne zum Mutterland des Blues, sorgten die Bluesbreakers für ausgezeichnete Stimmung im "Utopia" und hielten die Besucher bis gegen zwei Uhr in Atem. ... Sänger Dieter Themel ist eine Klasse für sich. Abgesehen von seiner erdigen Bluesstimme unterhielt er das Publikum mit markigen Sprüchen,"todernsten" Kommentaren, erschöpfenden Textinhaltsangaben und vergaß keine Sekunde, dem längst zum Fanclub avancierten Publikum die mitgebrachten Platten in ständiger Erinnerung zu halten.

Recorded Live’ The Anniversary Album, 25 Years on the Road
The Blues Breakers started life in a basement in Steindorf/Ossiachersee, Unlike some ‘live albums’ I can honestly say that this one certainly does not outlive its’ welcome after the first few numbers. The BB’s hit the ground rumbling with a hard and heavy maximum Rhythm & Blues sound that says to hell with the consequences; Lead vocalist Dieter Themel Roars into the microphone with a bluff, gruff no-nonsense growling voice that claws you to the wall, whilst the beefy bass of Helmut Spreitzer; marks time for the highly distinctive crystal clear guitarwork of Jorg Friessnegg that is as twangin’ as a roaring circular saw. Providing an infectious and evocative harp as well as a sharply distinctive accordion is Arthur Ottowitz; underpinning all this frenetic activity is Kiki Oswald; whose robust and unobtrusive drumming holds it all together. The fourteen numbers on the album are as varied as they are gripping, for the renditions of the likes of; “That’s alright Mama,” “The Hucklebuck” and “Mona” coupled together with “Iko,Iko” simply bounce out of the speakers. One of the most outstanding numbers on the album is their wonderfully pleading version of Tom Waits’ “Jersey Girl” with other numbers such as; “Little by Little,” “Running Shoes and “Pack, Fair & Square,” backing-up this set, the music is how R & B should be full-bodied carefree and footapping. The atmosphere that is conjured up from the very first number on the album is one of fun, fun fun; in fact I would say jivingly, exciting. Well worth a listen! Blues Art 08/2008
A Good Day For The Blues
Listening to this set from this Austrian five piece does indeed make it a good day for the blues. Ranging from acoustic based pieces with a bedrock of Jörg Freissnegg’s guitar and Arthur ‘Hotlips’ Ottowitz on harmonica (he also plays accordion here) behind the excellent vocalist
Im einundzwanzigsten Jahr ihres Bestehens zeigen die Kärntner keinerlei Ermüdungserscheinungen. Im Gegenteil! Ihr neuer Silberling besticht mit erfahrenem Spiel und sattem Grooves. Dieter Themel mit seinen charakteristischen, manchmal an Chris Farlowe erinnernden Vocals bestimmt den Gruppensond, ebenso wie Jörg Friessnegg an der ausgezeichneten Gitarre und natürlich Artur "Hotlips" Ottowitz an der Harp. Hinzu tritt die druckvolle Rhythmsection mit Helmut Spreitzer am Bass und Mario Kofler an den Drums. Aktzente setzen aber auch die Soultown Horns, sowie weitere Gäste an den Tasten. Die Arrangements der zahlreichen Covers - von "T-Bone Shuffle" über "Caldonia" bis zu "Love In Vain" oder John Hiatts "Riding With The King" - zeigen, dass die Bluesbreakers ihr Bluesgeschichtsbuch ausgiebig gelesen haben. Eigenes wie "Get To You" fügt sich organisch ein, geht über eingefahrene Bluesschemata hinaus, verstärkt damit den Abwechslungsreichtum und hätte ruhig in größerer Anzahl Platz finden können. In Summe ein kompaktes Album, das einmal mehr die Konkurrenzfähigkeit der heimischen Bluesszene unter Beweis stellt.
